IEP strategy group on German European Policy – “Berlin Futures”

The strategy group “Berlin Futures” brings together a small circle of representatives from politics, academia, media and civil society to develop new forward-looking ideas and impulses for German European policy and the future of the European project with the help of innovative, interactive methods of foresighted policy planning (‘Foresight Studies’). The objective of the strategy group is to jointly develop scenarios for German European policy in the future against the background of possible lines of development in global governance and the changed role of the EU in the changing global governance system. The Strategy Group is headed by Ambassador Andreas Peschke, Head of the European Department at the Federal Foreign Office, and Prof. Dr. Gaby Umbach, European University Institute Florence and IEP Board Member. The starting point for the joint considerations will be four future scenarios for global governance and the role of the EU in it for the period up to 2050 developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) for the Horizon 2020 project “TRIGGER-Trends in Global Governance and Europe’s Role”.
In addition to the support of the German Federal Foreign Office for this project, we are very pleased about the cooperation with the international TRIGGER project partners Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) and European University Institute Florence.
