21st Annual Conference of the German-Hungarian Forum and the 1st Conference of the Young German-Hungarian Forum, 14. / 15. October 2011

The 21st Annual Conference of the German-Hungarian Forum took place on the 14th and 15th October 2011 at the Representation of the Magyar Telekom in Budapest. The Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) organized the conference in cooperation with the German-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DUIHK). The theme of the forum centered on “Aspects of social integration of minorities in Hungary and Germany: possibilities, limits and European framework”. The Hungarian Foreign Minister Dr. János Martonyi and the German Minister of State Dr. Werner Hoyer opened the conference with over 250 participants attending from economic, political and civil society sectors. For the first time a Young German-Hungarian Forum also took place simultaneously, with themes dedicated to young professionals and academics.
The social integration and the integration of immigrants in Germany and Hungary as well as the integration of Roma in Europe were deliberated upon in panel discussions and working groups. The Young German-Hungarian Forum focused on identities and identity politics in the Danube region.
