Focus Ukraine: Three new publications in the research project on Eastern Europe and Central Asia
The three papers deal with the EU-Russia relations facing the crisis in Ukraine.
Katrin Böttger, project leader of the research project “The EU’s policy towards Eastern Europe and Central Asia – A key role for Germany”, deals in her TEPSA-Policy Paper ‘Time to hit the reset button: “The Eastern Partnership after the Vilnus summit and the role of Russia“’with the development of the EU-Ukraine relations before and after the Vilnius Summit, draws first lessons learnt from the crisis in Ukraine for EU foreign policy making and gives recommendations for its future development.
Marco Siddi, Research Associate at IEP analyses in his IEP Policy Brief The Italian presidency of the European Union — An opportunity to review EU relations with Russia and EaP countries possibilities of the Italian Council Presidency to exert influence on overcoming the crisis.
Julian Pänke, also Research Associate at thr IEP, gives recommendations in his IEP Policy Brief Enemy at the Gates? How the EU should cope with Russia in its Eastern Neighbourhood on how the EU should deal with Russia during the crisis and beyond.
While all three papers take an individual point of view, it becomes clear that the EU’s greatest current challenge is to combine short term reactions to events and long term strategic goals.
