Georgian delegation visits Berlin for research purposes

In the framework of the Berlin Policy Hub project, three researchers from the Georgian think tank Economic Policy Research Center (EPRC) visited IEP on 12–16 November. The delegation included Nino Evgenidze, Director of the Think Tank, Irina Guruli, Deputy Director, and Shota Gvineria, Head of Security Policy.

The Tbilisi-based Economic Policy Research Center was founded in 2002 and since then has been dealing with challenges of economic transformation and security policy. The EPRC’s research focuses on issues of tax, trade and financial policy, financial markets, investment conditions and the social system. EPRC contributes to science-based economic research and policy advice in Georgia as well as to the exchange and emergence of a network of economic experts.

The delegates of our partner organization met with representatives of the German Marshall Fund Berlin Office, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) and the grassroots-thinktank Polis180 to discuss research ideas and to initiate cooperation projects. Economic issues were discussed in particular with the German Economic Team Georgia (GET Georgia) and the German Eastern Business Association (OAOEV). A meeting with the German Atlantic Association supplemented the research stay with an additional transatlantic perspective. We are looking back on an interesting and productive week and looking forward to the next visit of our Georgian partners in Berlin.

The project “Berlin Policy Hub” is being implemented as part of the “Europeanization beyond Process” initiative supported by the Open Society Foundations. The hub, established at IEP, strengthens the network of researchers and think tanks from Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine with their German counterparts and offers them opportunities to present their expertise and research results in Germany.
