EUCACIS Online Paper No. 4: Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan: Endless Border Conflicts

Gulzana Kurmana­lieva analyses the situation of scarcity of pastures and water in the trans-boundary region of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan which leads to inter­ethnic tensions and a non-sustainable use of resources. The paper argues that the lack of insti­tu­tional arran­ge­ments leads to unequal pasture and water access and use in the region, and gives recom­men­da­tions on how to contribute to a solution of the conflicts.
